Happy Birthday, Astrology Mundo!

It was one year ago today that I decided to join the blogosphere by launching Astrology Mundo. Now, 422 posts, 1,353 (approved) comments, and 136,901 hits later, Astrology Mundo is celebrating its first birthday.

My output has varied since I fired up the blog for the first time, courtesy of WordPress, on Mar. 17, 2008, but my love of the astrological and blogging community hasn’t.

There have been two contributors who have kept this blog afloat over the past year when my energy flagged — Regina at Gastriques and Gian Paul, who has given us The View from Brazil. Thanks to both of you!

Also, thanks to the astrobloggers who have taken the time to comment on my posts and to link to them. I can’t name them all, but I’m thinking of Jude Cowell at Stars Over Washington and Jude’s Threshold, Comet at Out the Comet’s Ass, Julie Demboski, Beth Turnage at Astrology Explored, and ElsaElsa of blog aggregator AstroDispatch, to name a few. I couldn’t have done it without you. (More links later!)

Away from the cosmos, SFMike of Civic Center and Susan DeMark of Mindful Walker have helped keep my feet firmly on the ground while I’m looking up at the stars.

Last but not least, a big shout-out to Pamela Cucinell, my roommate at last year’s United Astrology Conference and the host of AstroChatter Radio, where I put my two astro cents in on a (mostly) regular basis.

Thanks everybody! I love all of you, especially my readers!

  1. Regina — Wow! That was fast. I just put this up a minute ago. I wish I were a more consistent bloggers these days, but it’s nice to know I have a place to vent and opine, when I need one. Thanks for all your help and leads! — Monica

  2. Parabens! Congratulations! Astology-Mundo is a good play-ground: definitely unique in this world. Hope to be able to return there for many years!

PS. Found Dilma Rousseff’s birth data, though not yet her hour: Belo Horizonte (MG), Dec. 14, 1947.

Lula’s “darling”, I must correct, does not have a degree in engineering but economics. Her other political qualifications: she was tortured, emprisoned etc. by the military dictatorship. And not just for being Che Guevarra’s friend. Where I got it mixed up with her university studies, is that Dilma is reputed for having excellent technical skills.
An example: it was her who as the terrorist’s arms expert, decided which weapons to find and in which arsenal.

One day however she miscalculated the number of men needed to lift $ 2,5 million in banknotes out of an apartment in Rio de Janeiro. The money “belonged” to the then Governor (military appointment) of São Paulo, but was stacked away in his mistresses house in Rio.

The safe was so heavy, that the men send to get the goddies could not lift it. So they decided to keep the neighbors under check as they were going to, not without noise, roll the safe down the stairs!

The marks this left on the marble stairs are still visible today. Maybe something to show to Obama when he comes to Rio. So -to-say some marks of “practical socialism”.

  3. Monica and Astrology Mundo:

Happy Birthday! What an incredible accomplishment. Wonderful year!

I came here today looking to see if you had posted your star-gazing view of the AIG mess. It’s proof of how much Astrology Mundo has become a much-anticipated regular stop in the blogosphere and how I look forward to your very particular, always-stirring take on things.

I’m raising a glass, virtually, to you, and look forward to the real thing soon.

    Great, great job!

  4. On this day of anniversary of Monica’s blog one more input which I hope will help to laugh a bit: Got a phone call by my Swiss lawyer (actually had forgotten about him since I now live in an other country). His advice: if you still have some divorce related finances pending, better you settle now as the markets have all taken a beating.

So I asked him whether he thought that things will improve rapidly from here. His answer: not really, but some governments (the Japanese for sure) and others are rigging up stock markets to “create confidence”.

I remember having said last year in this blog, at the time Lehman went belly-up, that the then US Government should have asked (forced) the Kuweit Investment Authority (they hold the keys to the petro-dollars hoarded there since years) to simply bail-out Lehman. And I then said: “for all the Kuweitis owe the US and the many foreign soldiers who died for them…” that would only be a just compensation. With hindsight it would have been indeed a cheap way to avoid much of today’s mess!

Only Bush would not listen to anyone (he actually said so) and now he even abstains from commenting. You will all end up regretting the guy!

Congratulations!!! Here’s to many more years of insightful and entertaining posts!

OTCA (Out the you know what)

  6. Thanks, Comet. I’m counting on you to let me know when the Big One is so I can drive out of Palm Springs in one piece. The Salton Sea Swarm is freaking me out.
