Mars Conjunct Saturn in Virgo

By now, most folks who follow the stars know that Mars will be conjunct Saturn at 5 degrees of Virgo on July 10.

I’ve been spending the morning thinking of ways to use this energy in a constructive fashion.

Mars rules work and power, and it’s meeting up with Saturn, which has to do with obstacles and restrictions. The two combined can result in frustration, but I think the intense effort also could produce results for a long-delayed project.

A popular interpretation for Mars/Saturn is “the end of work,” so you’ll notice that plays into a few of my suggestions. You frequently see this aspect in the charts of people taking time off from work for a vacation or medical procedure.

The sign of Virgo rules work, the environment, health-care, civil service, labor, detailed work, and accounting, to name just a few things, and these areas also factor into some of my suggestions.

Here’s my Top 10 list of what to do on July 10:

1. Get a root canal or any other dental procedure that you’ve been dreading.
2. Clean up any unfinished business with the Internal Revenue Service or Social Security. (Yes, Scorpio and Pluto traditionally have rulership over death and taxes, but Virgo rules accounting matters.)
3. Bring toxic paints, chemicals, and dead batteries to a special collection area if your town has one. (California has mandated these special areas statewide, but they exist in other places.) If the collection area isn’t open, separate the items for future dropoff.
4. Participate in a demonstration designed to improve the lot of workers.
5. Take a personal day from work to do chores around the house.
6. Make sure your life and health insurance is in order.
7. Get overdue immunizations for travel.
8. Organize your closets, and throw away medicines and household items that are past their expiration date.
9. Prune your trees and weed your garden.
10. Quit your job.

Hey, I didn’t say any of these things were going to be fun! These planets are meeting in Virgo, after all.

  1. Marie — I think you need to look at the house that Venus rules. There might be some end or hiatus in this area. Let’s suppose that Venus ruled the 11th house. A friendship might be coming to end because the friend has moved away. Or it might be on hold because the friend is on vacation. Hope this helps! — Monica

  2. Jorge — Chiron is the Wounded Healer. Astrologers would say there’s something about your homeland or your family of origin (fourth house) that makes you feel wounded. With Saturn/Pluto there, you’re going to feel frustrated.
However, Chiron is subtle so it might be something that you experience internally. Let’s say for the sake of example that you grew up in a house that embarrassed you in some way. Right now, you want to move to a better home, but with Saturn/Pluto there, maybe you can’t line up the financing to buy a new place or no one will buy the house you’re trying to sell.
The fourth house also has to do with the mother. Maybe you wish you had more money so that you could take care of your Mom and she wouldn’t have to work. However, Saturn/Pluto is blocking this ambition.
Without looking at your entire chart, I can’t make any guesses about your life. These are just two examples of what I think Saturn/Pluto in Virgo on your Chiron could be. Like I said, this could all be happening on an internal basis because the fourth house, at the very bottom of the chart, is very private. Hope this helps! — Monica

  3. Great article! Mars/Saturn is also ‘hard work’ and your suggestions about cleaning closets, etc, are certainly that.

Inflammed skin or broken bones are possibilities for some people, depending! jc

  4. !!! Both my natal mars and saturn are in virgo (21 degrees), so what does this solar return conjunction entail? It doesn’t sound like a very pleasant transit coming up. I’ve just moved within these two months and started a pretty serious relationship with a man coming out of one himself two weeks on moving here. Whew!

  5. Well, it’s tough to do a reading with one aspect. But here’s my best shot: Your natal Mars and Saturn are conjunct in Virgo at 21 degrees. Be prepared for more upheaval around Election Time, when you have your Saturn return, but natal Uranus is opposing it. You could suddenly quit your job or be fired. Not knowing what house your natal Mars/Saturn conjunction falls in, I’d say the instability is more likely to be on the work front than in the relationship arena. Good luck! – Monica

  6. Thanks Monica. Would a chart help?

My birthtime is unknown to an extent- I’m adopted and would need to get a chart rectification down the road. Yes, well, work hasn’t gotten any easier… there may be a chance I’ll go to Iraq in the fall- I’m an officer in the Navy.

  7. Well, assuming you’ve got the right time through rectification, you will always have sudden changes in your environment (Uranus on the Ascendant) because of changes at work (Saturn/Mars in Virgo sextile Uranus in Scorpio). You’ve got Jupiter on your Moon right now, so enjoy life until you have to make a move in the fall. It might be temporary anyway. Also, with Uranus in the picture, you might be sent someplace else besides Iraq. Iran? In other words, surprises are always part of the plan for you because of the Uranian element. Being a Navy officer is a good career for you. You will be quite successful.

  8. I have natal mars 15 degrees pisces exactly opposed transiting saturn in virgo right now. I have been doing some reading and it seems that I ought to be totally pissed off, and frankly, I’m not. My pisces mars is in my 6th house, and my natal saturn is in my 3rd house – which is my scorpio house. I have been working really hard these last few days, and I see that the future has a lot more work in store for me. I was wondering if anyone has any insight into what the opposition might mean from a purely positive point of view. Any information would be greatly appreciated……

  9. Antoinette — Mars/Saturn aspects of any kind can promote extreme focus and discipline to get a project done or move a dream along. They also promote physical endurance, though can sometimes lead to frustration. Good luck! — Monica

  10. Monica – don’t know if my laptop turned spooky, your comments to Antoinette back in July popped up as a recent comment.

Well, that was early in Virgo, and “in the skies”. But in early November Saturn will be conjunct Wall Street’s Mars in Virgo (18 degr. 45).

And your interpretation of such a conjunction appears well to the point: “promotes physical endurance, though, can sometimes lead to frustration” you said.

Better not to be long stocks until end November. Wall Street is not the only casino in this world. But must be the most “long lasting one”.Vive l’Amerique”!

  11. Gian Paul — Antoinette commented last night on a post that I wrote in July. Comments can be posted at any time to items written in the past. Thanks, Monica

  12. Thank you so much Monica. I appreciate the information. I have read some older texts on this transit and they seem to focus only on the negative. It’s nice to hear something productive and positive for a change.
Actually, I do feel quite focused at this time and as such, I plan on using this transit period to move a ‘dream’ of mine forward.

  13. transit Saturn is going to conjunct my natal mars at 11 house Virgo and Uranus in 6 going to opposite both planets. Can someone give me a short interpretation.
