John McCain’s 2008 Solar Return Using a 6:25 P.M. Birth Time

I may have been the only astrologer in America who believed John McCain’s Mom. The 96-year-old revealed in a Mother’s Day campaign ad this year that the Republican Presidential contender was born at 11 a.m.

Most stargazers have been relying on a 9 a.m. time that was provided earlier by a McCain staffer to AstroDataBank after talking to the candidate’s mother.

Michael WolfStar at StarIQ rectified McCain’s chart and came up with an 8:38 a.m. time. If you want to read what WolfStar thinks about McCain’s chart, click here.

Well, it turns out everybody was wrong. A birth certificate for McCain, which was brought to my attention on Oct. 12, shows a 6:25 p.m. time of birth on Aug. 29, 1936. That gives McCain an early Pisces rising, an Aquarius Moon, and a Virgo stellium that includes his Sun in the seventh house.

So much for the idea of McCain as a Libra rising because he had dimples. Ditto for the Scorpio rising chart, which gave McCain an angular Mars in Leo at the Midheaven. Here we had the war hero in all his glory. Also, this would have explained the fact that among his Washington colleagues, McCain is known for his temper.

Now that we’ve got what appears to be a real birth time based on a State Dept. document, I’ve rerun McCain’s solar return. I set the chart for Dayton, Ohio, thanks to WolfStar’s excellent research. That’s where the GOP Presidential nominee was when the Sun returned to the exact spot it was when he was born. Here’s McCain’s 2008 solar return.

I’ve since run the solar return for Washington for technical reasons and the chart looks pretty much the same as the one set in Dayton.

It’s got the flamboyant Moon in Leo rising. This chart is basically all about Sarah Palin, whom McCain announced as his vice-presidential nominee on his birthday. That Moon could also explain the media firestorm surrounding the revelation that Palin’s 17-year-old daughter Bristol Palin is pregnant, an announcement that appeared to surprise McCain.

I don’t think Aquarian Sarah Palin is going to be that easy to control on the campaign trail. It’s lucky for the McCain camp that her Democrat counterpart, Biden, is known for exhibiting symptoms of foot-in-mouth disease.

You know what other feisty lady in McCain’s life is an Aquarian? You guessed it: His Mom, who was born Feb. 7, 1912. So maybe Sarah isn’t going away after all.

As an Army brat born in Germany who has had to produce something called the “Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America” numerous times in my life, I long wondered why John McCain hadn’t been asked to come up with a similar document.

Now, someone has produced it for him!

P.S. Comments below may reflect an earlier version of this post, which relied on an 11 a.m. time of birth for McCain.

John McCain Born at 6:25 p.m.: It’s Official

My commenter Cynthia has just sent me a link to a site that appears to have an official birth certificate for John McCain. According to this official-looking State Dept. document, McCain was born at 6:25 p.m., not 9 a.m., as reported by many astrologers, and not 11 a.m., as recalled by his mom in a Mother’s Day ad.

The birth certificate shows McCain being born in Colon, Panama, which is not part of the Panama Canal Zone like Cocosolo, the birth town that most astrologers had been using. Evidently, this could have political implications, but I’m out of my depth on citizenship issues and the Presidency, so I’m going to refrain from comment on this matter.

I don’t know how long this has been floating around the Web. Cynthia, thanks so much for sending the link to McCain’s birth certificate.

The 6:25 p.m. time of birth puts McCain’s Virgo Sun and other Virgo planets — Neptune and Venus — in the seventh house of partnerships. He’s got an early Pisces rising and a 2 degree Aquarius Moon with this chart, available here courtesy of Astrodienst.

The seventh house emphasis shows a guy who was “married” to the Navy (Neptune) for many years and is the spouse of an heiress (Venus) to a beer distributorship (Neptune).

Jupiter in Sagittarius moves to the Midheaven with the latest birth time. Lots of luck and good fortune, though transiting Saturn in Virgo is raining on this parade right now as it squares Jupiter.

What Jupiter in Sag “angular” brings to the fore is McCain’s thrill-seeking — whether playing daredevil games in the air as a Navy pilot, chasing women, or gambling. As many observers have noted, he impulsively approved Palin as his running mate without vetting her credentials (I’m skeptical that he actually chose her), in essence rolling the dice on an unknown quantity.

To get a feel for McCain the risk-taker, check out this passage from Tim Dickinson’s piece in Rolling Stone:

“I enjoyed the off-duty life of a Navy flier more than I enjoyed the actual flying,” McCain writes. “I drove a Corvette, dated a lot, spent all my free hours at bars and beach parties.” McCain chased a lot of tail. He hit the dog track. Developed a taste for poker and dice. He picked up models when he could, screwed a stripper when he couldn’t.

Off duty on his Mediterranean tours, McCain frequented the casinos of Monte Carlo, cultivating his taste for what he calls the “addictive” game of craps. McCain’s thrill-seeking carried over into his day job. Flying over the south of Spain one day, he decided to deviate from his flight plan. Rocketing along mere feet above the ground, his plane sliced through a power line. His self-described “daredevil clowning” plunged much of the area into a blackout.

Dickinson makes the point that McCain was famous for “stalling out” while in the air and having to parachute from his plane or make a crash-landing. Interesting that the new chart has earthbound Saturn in Pisces squaring that high-flying Jupiter. (You can read Dickinson’s entire profile of McCain here.)

Saturn sits in the first house, where it’s currently being opposed by transiting Saturn in Virgo and is close to a conjunction with transiting Uranus in Pisces.

Other astrologers and political pundits are going to slice and dice this new data much better than I can. But, off the cuff, I can tell you that with the early Moon in Aquarius, McCain will be getting a nice boost from Jupiter when it moves into the sign of the Water Bearer on Jan. 6.
